Isledon Road Gardens
As you can see the current layout needed revamping and a new leash of life injected into this beautiful rural setting, just of the hustle and bustle of Islington centre. In the first image you can see a wall directly in front that was in need of being removed to open up this beautiful space to make it feel more welcoming and inclusive to all who visited.
Removal of Steel Pergola, along with breaking out concrete to create a new embankment with 2 steel slides and a Robinia climbing frame and play spheres. Adding in new railings, benches and wooden fencing. Reducing and removing walls around community garden to allow more openness, completed with stepping stones, and planting.
We were also tasked with removing this large steel roof structure which served no purpose any longer. With our experienced team at hand, (along with a crane and telehandlers) we removed the framework with was re-purposed, and spent considerable time removing concrete surrounding and supporting it that could have doubled as a concrete bunker! With limited access, only a 3 ton machine could access the site with a pecker.
So in summary, this turned into a big task for the team to form the new embankment that provided the 2 new steel embankment slides. The below images show the amount that was broken up and reused for this project. Here at SLC we try to avoid wastage and reuse what we can to reduce costs to the client, and impact on the environment.
The team got on straight away by clearing this space, dropping walls to the desired heights (and removing the front wall entirely) to lay the foundations for a new and exciting area for all to enjoy.
What a difference… this now open and spacious area laced with new brickwork, railings and a pathway allowing access all around and providing new benches to sit and take in the views. The existing trees frame this area allowing them to grow and change with the seasons
A new play area has been installed incorparting 2 new embankment slides, new colourful play spheres and a robinia climbing frame for children to explore whilst theres gross motor skills and and imagination to bring this area to life whilst sharing this space with friends and family. The new tiger mulch surfacing surrounds this new play area whilst using bright inviting colours to provide a safe environment to use in all weathers.
The existing metal railings surround this play were refurbished and painted black and altered and added to, to suit the mound profile, provide safe use and security reassurance.
I’m sure you will agree these improvements have made this a much more usable space for all to enjoy for many years to come and the local resident will welcome these much needed improvements to Isledon Gardens.
