Contract Challenges
The Yekta at 12 metres high required SLCs specialist knowledge in installation methodology.
The site was 100 metres away from the roadway which required the construction of a temporary road and operating area for a 100 tonne crane.
No unloading of deliveries could be made in the road and vehicles could also not reverse out onto Leggatts Way.
Design
Southern Green were appointed as lead consultant to design and manage the implementation of two iconic destination play sites in Hertfordshire.
The Harebreaks site is located on the fringe of Semi Ancient Woodland and is a registered nature reserve.
The large play unit is nestled beneath the canopy of mature Oak trees which inspired the design.
The play tower is 22 metres in length and totals 12 metres in height.
Adventurers can ascend the unit by a climbing walls, bridges or via scramble nets.
A netted area provides opportunities for quieter play, resting and relaxation.
The project started with the construction of a temporary roadway.
The roadway was to allow the crane to access the site together with tele-handlers, aerial platforms as well as equipment deliveries.
On completion of the Yekta installation the roadway was removed leaving an undamaged grass way.
Our 3 tonne mini digger is dwarfed by the 100 ton crane.
The operating area protected using Track Matts suitable for a 100 tonne crane. On completion of the project the matts were removed to reveal a perfectly preserved football pitch and grass way.
Detailed logistical planning was a key factor in the successful construction of the Yekta.
The foundation pits were formed good and deep.
The posts were concreted into position.
SLC visited FHS in Germany with our Site Managers to develop the construction methodology.
Sub sections were assembled “on the deck” prior to craning into position.

The Yekta taking shape
The site team’s safety is the main consideration in planning the construction of such a complex item.
The correct access equipment and specialist team are essential.
A proud team
And this is what it was all about, a fabulous Yekta.
